I’m a third-generation Prairie Village resident. I know that our city is special – and I know that doesn’t happen by accident. It takes dedicated leadership, engaged residents, and smart policy to ensure Prairie Village is a place we can all be proud to call home. I’m ready to work with you and all of our neighbors to protect what makes Prairie Village unique, while investing in the continued progress of our community and residents.
Public Safety
Residents consistently say that public safety should be the City’s top priority and we are proud of our world-class Police Department, led by Chief Eric McCollough. Our Police Department has built a strong relationship with the community, based on decades of trust and engagement. Nearly half of the city’s current budget is invested in public safety, and I will work to make sure that continues, ensuring the department has the resources it needs to maintain its service and our safety at the highest levels.
During my first term on Council, I have been a staunch ally for our police officers, voting for three separate pay increases to help us recruit and retain our skilled officers in the midst of a challenging labor market. There is always more to do. Our current police department building lacks the space we need for our officers to operate. I am a strong supporter of an expansion of our police department to meet these needs as we continue to prioritize the safety and security of our community.
Smart Investment
Prairie Village currently allocates over 70 percent of our city’s budget to public safety and public works – including our police, roads, sidewalks, and parks. I believe we should maintain these smart spending priorities that reflect residents’ needs and expectations. If we continue to invest wisely in the fundamentals such as our infrastructure, safety, and amenities, our city will continue to be a great place to live.
Value for Tax Dollars
Local property taxes have risen dramatically in recent years. Currently, just about 16 percent of our property tax bill goes to Prairie Village, with the median Prairie Village resident paying around $71/month in municipal taxes. The council has been a good steward of those funds, prioritizing safety, infrastructure, and amenities that enhance our everyday lives, while investing in the future needs of our city.
In 2025, I will be serving as the Chair of our Finance Committee. I look forward to working with Council and staff to put together our 2026 budget in a way that provides for our residents’ needs and keeps PV future-ready.
Transparency and Accountability
Our city works best when residents are active and engaged in their government. During my first term on Council, I have always been willing to listen to residents to find consensus and the best path for our city in some very challenging times. I have maintained a city-wide newsletter that chronicles some of the larger decisions we’ve made as a Council, and I’ve worked hard to be responsive to residents who have reached out to me over the past four years.
